The Wild Plum Head Start Program has been a valued part of our church family since the head start program first took up residence in our education wing in 1965. Wild Plum provides early education for infants and preschoolers. We host a special breakfast regularly for Wild Plum staff to show our appreciation for their hard work and we have many programs to help support and show our appreciation for our Wild Plum staff and families.
We host a reading program in our new Indoor Learning Center. Volunteers come on different days of the week to read to Wild Plum classes. The students are allowed to check out books from the ILC library to take home. With this program, we hope to promote literacy and encourage a love of reading in these young students.
Our Chef Hearty program directly supports Wild Plum students and families. Once a month, volunteers fill tote bags with a recipe and fresh ingredients for a healthy meal for a family of four. Chef Hearty provides an opportunity for kids to cook and enjoy a meal with their families.
Wild Plum families and staff were hit hard by the SNAP benefits crisis, so we pooled our resources and found space in our church to make a food pantry for them. The congregation brought many non-perishable, staple food items to stock the pantry.
During the Christmas season we host a special Santa’s Workshop event for our Wild Plum families and other families in need in our community. Members of the church also sponsor a gift basket for a Wild Plum family to ensure the children and their families experience the joy of the season.
